Though probably best known as one-third of Cobblestone Jazz, Victoria’s Danuel Tate comes with a long and varied history as a fully versed jazz musician known all along the West Coast for his versatility with the piano. Along these travels he began collaborating with Tyger Dhula, and soon after the pair began a musical partnership with Mathew Jonson and Colin de la Plante (aka The Mole). Compelling live performers across the board, the four musicians quickly garnered attention as The Modern Deep Left Quartet for their improvisational talents and abilities to rouse an audience. After de la Plante left Victoria, Tate, Dhula, and Jonson rose to international prominence with two albums as Cobblestone Jazz – the second of which featured The Mole anyways. In 2010, Danuel Tate released his first solo album, Mexican Hotbox (Wagon Repair), a joyous blend of jazz and electronic sensibilities that showcases its creator’s distinct and occasionally quirky take on house music.
