Alongside MUTEK 2010 alumni Brandt Brauer Frick and fellow 2011 performers Elektro Guzzi, Perlon recording artists Wareika belong to that riveting trend of live-electronic collectivism among a new generation of deep-house enthusiasts who eschew the isolationist tendency of working alone in favour of a more organic and permeable version of the genre that emerges from well-honed live instrumentation and improvisational prowess. With two albums under their belts in 2010 – the impressive debut Formation and the excellent follow-up Harmonie Park – the trio of Florian Schirmacher, Henrik Raabe, and Jakob Seidensticker has come storming out of the gates with a subtly jazzy sound propelled by crisp percussion, minimally warm keyboard work, and dubby interludes. Born in the Hamburg scene, which is quickly emerging as a housier counterpoint to Berin’s techno, Raabe and Seidensticker have performed together previously in numerous deep-house live bands such as The Egocentric and The Havana Boys. Wareika came together when the pair began working with Schirmacher, who also brings a strong history of collaboration in the city’s deep house circles.
